The Royal Agricultural Society of the Commonwealth (RASC), every two years, run an Understanding and Assistance Mission. This year (2014), it is in Malawi. This mission allows young people with leadership skills to go to third world countries and help out with their agricultural shows. An incredible opportunity not to be passed up. The RAS Rural Achiever Award is another amazing opportunity. It seeks to honour young men and women, aged 20-29, who make significant contributions to their local communities and who work hard. It creates future young leaders, and I can tell you they are hard working incredible people as we attended the same events during our time at the SRES. Definitely click the link below!
Alright, so Coles and Woolies have had a fair bit of gripe against them re/farm gate prices, the milk pricing war and so on... And I'm not saying that it isn't deserved... But this is a fantastic notion put forward by Woolworths - The Woolworths Agricultural Scholarship is a fully funded 12-day course that allows 24 young Australians to gain a broad understanding of agribusiness from industry experts.
Marcus Oldham, an agricultural college based in Geelong, provides many opportunities for future agribusiness leaders. They run a rural leadership course once a year, for 5 days. What does a good leader really do? An interesting program in it's 21st year from one of Australia's leading agricultural institutions. For future rural leaders in ANY industry, combating the insular nature that can be confining on rural properties.
What if you can't afford to travel for these opportunities? Never fear, if you join the Future Farmer's Network (FFN) they provide up to $500 per person for travel and training, access to FFN sponsored scholarships, FFN events and forums. A very worthy group gaining more note every time I check my email!
