Ashton Taylor is the 2013 Barmedman Showgirl. She's a fantastic ambassador for Barmedman, and 'Hometown Heroes' is one of many reasons why.
"Growing up in a rural setting, I have always felt a strong connection with small communities and the people within them. In 2013 I began a photographic project named ‘Hometown Heroes’ which depicted people within my own rural community in their work or home environments. Small communities rely on individuals to continue their development, and this is something I want to document. I plan on continuing to produce work within this project, as I am extremely passionate about the mental and physical benefits of art in rural communities. I believe that creating and engaging with art is paramount in self-expression, exploration of the environment and bringing small communities together. In this way, Agricultural Show societies have a large part to play in the encouragement and development of art in rural communities, and I hope to continue to support artistic and pavilion activities within my local Show Society."
